How To Determine The Opening Direction Of Cleanroom Door

The opening direction of cleanroom doors follows the core principle of "cleanliness priority and pressure differential adaptation."

For adjacent rooms with different cleanliness levels, according to clean plant design codes and standard requirements, cleanroom doors must open towards the room with higher air cleanliness, and must be equipped with door closer. Observation windows should be installed on the airtight doors of windowless cleanrooms. The room with higher cleanliness maintains positive pressure; after the door is closed, the high indoor pressure will automatically press the door leaf tightly, enhancing the seal and preventing air from the lower cleanliness area from seeping in and causing contamination. The personnel traffic direction is "low cleanliness → high cleanliness." The door opening direction is consistent with the direction of travel, allowing the door to be pushed open to avoid hand contact with the door handle, reducing the risk of cross-contamination.

For adjacent rooms with the same cleanliness level, it is required that the door opens towards the room with relatively higher pressure differential, complying with the pressure differential gradient design to ensure the sealing effect and avoid air leakage.

The following are design principles for some special scenarios:

1. Clean operating department: It is required that swing doors and safety doors leading from the clean area to the non-clean area open outwards (in the evacuation direction), and all doors within the clean area open towards the direction of higher static pressure.

2. Special negative pressure rooms (such as positive control rooms, explosion-proof rooms): Follow the principle of "opening towards the direction of higher cleanliness/higher pressure," utilizing the pressure differential to ensure door sealing and prevent the spread of pollutants.

3. Safety evacuation doors (clean area → non-clean area/outdoors): Must open in the evacuation direction and be equipped with door closer. The use of overhead doors, revolving doors, rolling shutter doors, or electronically controlled automatic doors as evacuation doors is prohibited.

If there is a conflict between the door opening direction designed according to the above requirements and the fire evacuation requirements in actual design and construction, the core of the solution is: cleanliness requirements dictate opening towards the higher cleanliness/higher pressure side, while fire evacuation requirements dictate opening towards the escape direction. The resolution follows the principle that mandatory fire safety requirements take precedence, with classified designs implemented to accommodate cleanliness requirements.
