High-level biosafety laboratories (BSL-3, BSL-4, ABSL-3, ABSL-4) primarily utilize two types of airtight equipment: biosafety airtight pass-through windows and inflatable sealed doors.
The working principle of a biosafety airtight pass-through window involves interlocking to prevent leakage and avoid air convection caused by simultaneous opening of both doors; it is equipped with slow-closing damping to control the closing time to ≥3 seconds, reducing airflow impact; and it employs full-process disinfection, using laminar flow self-cleaning and methods such as ultraviolet light and ozone to effectively kill microorganisms and prevent the spread of contamination.
The core features of a biosafety airtight pass-through window include double-door sealing, an interlocking device, and a disinfection system. Both doors use a mechanical and inflatable double-seal system, with high-elasticity sealing rings and inflatable sealing rings installed on the door panels, forming a double-layer sealing strip through a compression mechanism. The double doors are interlocked to prevent direct communication between different areas. It can be connected to VHP disinfection equipment or equipped with various disinfection devices, such as ultraviolet disinfection, ozone disinfection, hydrogen peroxide low-temperature plasma disinfection, and pulsed xenon light disinfection.
The working principle of the inflatable sealing door is as follows: When the door is opened, an opening command is issued via the control panel. The inflation/deflation control system immediately initiates the deflation program, the inflatable sealing strip quickly deflates and retracts into the door leaf groove, the electromagnetic lock unlocks, and the door can be easily opened. The entire deflation process takes ≤5 seconds. When the door is closed, the system automatically detects the door's closed state and then initiates the inflation program. The sealing strip completes inflation and expansion within 5 seconds, tightly adhering to the door frame to form a strict sealing layer; simultaneously, the electromagnetic lock automatically locks, and the double-door interlocking system is activated to ensure that doors in adjacent areas do not open simultaneously, achieving complete airtight isolation between areas.
The inflatable sealing door is designed around the principle of "inflating and sealing, deflation and retraction for opening," and consists of four parts. The door frame and door body are made of seamless stainless steel (plate thickness ≥2.0mm, pressure resistance ≥2500Pa). The door leaf features rounded corners and a disc-type observation window. The door frame uses a matching keel for easy installation. The inflatable sealing system features a disinfectant-resistant inflatable sealing strip embedded in the door leaf groove. It comes in single or double airbag configurations; the double-airbag version can self-test its airtightness on-site. The inflation/deflation control system is precisely controlled by an inflation pump and solenoid valves, with an inflation/deflation time of ≤5 seconds and capable of over 10,000 cycles. Safety and control components include an electromagnetic lock for double-door interlocking, emergency stop buttons on both sides, and a manual vent valve.
The biosafety airtight transfer window and the inflatable sealing door have different functions but the same core objective: to prevent the spread of microorganisms with high airtightness. The inflatable sealing door is responsible for static area isolation, defining a safe space; the airtight transfer window enables dynamic material transfer, ensuring safe flow. Together, they constitute a complete biosafety protection system of "personnel isolation + logistics control."
